Sunday evening – Update – A Good Therapy Day
What we learned today was Matthew wants to heal. That it will be his friends and family who help him heal. Friends who have skills that Matthew needs, bringing those skills forth and using those skills to bring about Matthew’s recovery.
We saw this today with Matthew. That he wants to heal but he needs all of us to consistently help in his healing & recovery.
Eve came and helped Matthew with speech and voice exercises. Matthew really participated. We practiced mouth sounds Aaaah, mmmmm, oooooo. We practiced yes and no. And to speak louder…not in a breathy whisper. We used a cold spoon to activate Matt’s tongue and encourage swallowing.
I was really impressed with Matt’s response. He loved the cold spoon.
Occupational Therapy (OT)came in and worked on his right side, the weaker side. The OT was able to feel a flicker of hand movement. Also a small push with his right leg. The OT was impressed with Matt’s work on the left too. With help Matt was able to lift his left arm up and hold it above his head for a few seconds. Pushes with his left leg were good too.
Matt spelled out the word ”Blend” – not sure what for. He was getting a bit frustrated with my lack of understanding his words when he is trying to talk.
I tell him one word or one syllable at a time and loud.
Matthew did really well today and we all should be happy & proud & encouraging of the efforts he is putting into his recovery. Matthew wants to heal.
Hopefully Matthew will sleep well tonight.
