Nicholas Roerich, Paintings, a New Moon & Columbus Day
This Friday, October 9, is the birthday of Nicholas Roerich, Russian painter, artist, writer, visionary and polymath (born in 1874). Roerich created thousands of mystical and occult paintings of landscapes, the Himalayas, eastern andwestern spirituality, history, saints, music, travels, Buddhism and the mythical realm of Shamballa. Each canvas is a story. His landscapes glow as if from within with an intense saturated light. The paintings are symbolic, cosmic and luminous with blazing color. A book of Roerich’s
paintings is Messengers of Beauty (or Visionary Art of Nicholas Roerich) by Jacqueline Decter.
Venus retrograde in Scorpio continues ‘til November 13. We are all Persephone now, deep in the underworld, eating the jeweled seeds of the pomegranate. Saturday, October 24, Mercury joins Venus as it too retrogrades in Scorpio. Everything and everyone finally turns inward.
A new moon occurs Saturday, 17 degrees Libra, sign of choice, of Goodwill, Right Relations, harmony, balance and equilibrium. Libra appears during transitional times, which we are in now. Libra asks of us – what choices are being made by humanity? Shall you turn back to the old ways or move towards the new? Should we choose to move forward, beware. There will be tests and trials ahead to see if we are made of the stuff of disciples.
Columbus Day is Monday. This has become a “politically correct issue” these many years. What does Columbus Day celebrate spiritually? The expansion of Europe’s knowledge via the discovery of new lands, a new world across an ocean. A brave young man with three ships discovers the world is larger than Europe. In wisdom teachings,Master St. Germaine, who oversees the Americas, directed Christopher Columbus on his oceanic journeys. Columbus was born in Genoa, Italy, 1451 in Genoa, Italy, later settling in Portugal. He landed in America in 1492 during the first of four voyages to the New World
sponsored by King Ferdinand and Queen Isabella of Spain. Columbus’s voyages expanded all world views and perspectives concerning the Earth.
Columbus wrote that God explicitly chose him as the “messenger of the new heaven and the new earth” described by St. John in Revelations. His discoveries inaugurated the new spiritual work of the continent of the Americas, the United States as the New Jerusalem (the new experiment). The experiment continues in this critical time. And humanity needs the new education to understand itself, each nation, country and leader. This is the task of the NGWS.
