Humanity Laboring in the Fields of the Lord – Each Sign’s Labor
Monday, September 7, 2026, is Labor Day. Leo (self-identity) moon, Virgo (daily labor and service) Sun. Recognizing humanity laboring in the “fields of the Lord” seeking surcease from its suffering and injustice.
The Labor Movement historically is part of humanity’s search for freedom and justice.
Labor unions, or organized labor, arose in the mid-1800s with a set of values (less and less respected these days)—that of solidarity; the good of the whole; mutual assistance; equality; esprit de corps; support for families; disdain for elitism, and that democracy and individual rights do not stop at the workers’ gate. Employees and laborers united for mutual protection and just rights.
The Labor Union movement developed specific tools—education (supporting freedom), the strike and strength in unity – in order to “wrest from monied interests decent wages, better
living conditions and leisure, the right of every human.” There are spiritual and educational aspects of the labor movement, oft neglected and unknown. Labor Day celebrations today are lost in the midst of summer’s ending and forgotten in the chaos of ignorance and different ideologies.
The Labors of Hercules and the Labor Movement have much in common.
The “Labors of Hercules” are twelve mythological tests and trials of immense strength (spiritual initiations), while the “labor movement” is the historical and ongoing fight for workers’ rights. The two share a connection through the heavy and difficult nature of both struggles.
The labor movement is a social and political effort by working people. Instead of fighting mythological monsters, workers united into trade unions to fight for fair wages, safer
working conditions, shorter working hours (such as the eight-hour workday), the right to strike and collectively bargain.
Just as Hercules faced monsters like the Hydra that grew back heads, unions often face deep-pocketed corporations and harsh anti-union laws that seem impossible to overcome.
It takes human endurance, courage, persistence and the grueling process of trying to bring order and justice to a chaotic world. To reorient a corrupt system, the Aquarian waters of life must be directed towards cleaning out the “Augean stables” (Aquarian Labor). Both are Herculean tasks for humanity.
On Labor Day, we recognize and honor all the labors of humanity. We are all in service, we are all laboring. And so, what are the labors of each sign? What are we each to cultivate?
