Do you have a best friend? My mother’s best friend was her sister. When mother’s sister died, my mother was bereft.
I told my mother, “I will be your best friend.”
I had a best friend. But something happened and the relationship was broken. The pain of loss afterward was like grieving a death.

Actually it was a death. We never recovered. Something was truly lost. There was no salvaging. She is far away now. I miss her.
