St. Anthony would preach to the fish & they listened!
Owing to his title as the patron saint of animals, Spanish celebrations include having holy water sprinkled on pets for protection. Pet owners line the streets of San Anton in Madrid to give their cats, dogs, and other furry friends this special treatment.
The saint who tended & cared for the poor, needy & ill.
He would stand at the seashore & speak to the fish in the sea who would gather together listening to him.
He is the saint who helps in the recovery of lost & mislaid things.
He was a great Teacher. He had with him the book of Psalms (emblazoned in gold, very precious at that time – 12th century) & It was stolen. St. Anthony prayed for it to be found. The book was stolen by a thief. Soon after his prayer for the book to be recovered, events occurred that the thief was found & the book returned. It was really a miracle. From then on, St. Francis became the saint of things lost & things recovered. That book of Psalms is preserved in the Franciscan monastery at Bologna.
