Joining our Jewish sisters & brothers
who are baking Challah together – a ritual of unity in
times of difficulty –
Today is Friday, the usual day Challah is made in the Jewish community – preparing for Shabbat, tonight’s Shabbat meal at sundown, which begins the new day. Challah is always served at Friday’s Shabbat, covered with a clean linen towel until it’s time for the blessing & time to eat together.

Baking Challah for blessings & peace.
In the Torah’s Book of Number – the instructions say to reserve a portion of the Challah dough for God, focusing the mind & heart & make a blessing before discarding it (in the compost). This “law” is to be applied during difficulties, sorrows, tragedies & joy. We can say the word “Amen” & we can ask God for help & also offer God gratitude & also offer to God whatever is the difficulty, tragedy, the war, the pain, the sorrow, the joy.

Let us all do this together in the Ashram today. And in the days to come as a way of acknowledging peace & love between all peoples, all nations, all hearts & minds. Risa
