The stars in our heavens

In our last days of Virgo Sun.
1. First we had a high intensity geomagnetic storm – a G3 (strong) storm. A coronal mass ejection (CME) impact last night – the result being a beautiful auroral display filling the sky over N. Canada. (sleep is difficult during these storms).

2. Second, I just read that sunsets & sunrises happen fastest at the equinoxes. With the slowest, at the solstices. It’s about the angle of the sun at these points in time. The difference in minutes (at 40 degree latitude) – on the day of equinox, the sun sets in about 2 3/4 minutes. Whereas, on the day of solstice, the sun sets in roughly 3 1/4 minutes at 40 degrees latitude.

3. Where’s the Big Dipper these evenings? It is either very low or below the horizon for those in the northern latitudes. To see the Big Dipper we have to be out & about looking up & looking north before dawn.

4. What do we see in the evening sky tonight? At twilight – the waning crescent Moon & the heart of Scorpio’s red/orange Antares, Libra’s star, the strange sounding Zubenelgenubi (rhymes with Obi-Wan Kenobi of Star Wars).

5. Theres also a comet flying through the sky.

6. In the mornings, we see brilliant Venus with Mercury nearby.
