Below is how to listen to an interview, read a text or listen to a podcast or music or watch a film…these help us focus our mind when observing something. They provide us with an intelligent way to have a discussion, using the intelligent informed (non reactive) mind. Then we can all gather together & learn from each other. Outline to focus the mind’s abilities to Observe, Discern, Think, Assess, Integrate, Understand, Question & Respond.

(reading a text, watching a film, listening to a speaker, a piece of music, etc.)

How to Read a Text (& Respond) & more.

When reading (listening, too) and responding to texts (books, articles, quotes, podcasts, interviews, dialogue, conversations, speakers, information, music, a painting, etc.) we need a focused intelligent informed mind.
To absorb, ponder upon & to integrate information we need a focused mind.
The following are guidelines to use while reading a text or listening or watching a film. The guidelines help us develop & cultivate the focused mind.

While reading (listening too) we ask ourselves (and write down the answers) the following questions (step by step).

Our acknowledgement of the writer and writer’s intent and our responses emerge from answers to these questions. If needed have a dialogue with another/others posing these questions.

Questions to help one study & integrate & respond….

1. What is/are the central message(s), theme(s) of the text? State/write them down.

2. What is the author’s reason, purpose and intent in writing this text?

3. What is s/he attempting to say? What is his point of view?

4.. What parts of the text are meaningful to you? State/write them. Why are they meaningful to you?

5. What parts do you not understand? State/write them.

6. What words in the text do you need to define in order to understand better? Define them.

7. What questions do you have?

8. What meaning(s) have you taken from the text?

9. How does this information connect with your life?

10. How has what you have read affected or changed you in any way?

11. What thoughts did you have while reading this text?

12. Do you have further thoughts on the subject(s) presented after some pondering on the inf.?

10. Are there any actions you will take because of the information in the text?
