Mercury Retrograde & the Two Fishes

Mercury’s first retrograde for 2026 is occurring in Pisces and thus the messenger is in dialogue with the two fishes, one fish facing upward (spirit), the other facing downward (matter), both connected by a silver silken cord. The conversation is about humanity – how best to serve and save this renegade wild bunch of angels, caught on a planet of sorrows. Mercury and the two fishes will continue their conversation until spring equinox, March 20th, when the Sun enters Aries and Mercury turns around and faces direct again. Mercury, however, will remain in its retrograde shadow until April 10th. Not ‘til then will things become clearer, more transparent, less veiled and in a Neptune fog.

Mercury is the messenger, building the Antahkarana (Rainbow Bridge from personality to Soul), planet of ideas, thoughts, thinking and all communication. Because Mercury is retrograde in Pisces (silvery, foggy, Neptunian watery depths), we must be extra mindful, observing more carefully thoughts and speech. They may not be clear at all! Mercury also oversees all interactions, exchanges, expressions, interfaces, relations, collaborations, travel, voyages, journeys and pilgrimages.

In Mercury retrograde, our mind turns to inner worlds. We don’t see or focus or maneuver well, especially while driving. Our communications can be garbled, jumbled and at times completely incomprehensible. This is true especially as this Mercury retrograde occurs in Pisces, which gives our communication a speaking-from-the-bottom-of-the-sea quality and tone.

Mercury retrogrades three times a year. It offers our minds a time to rest and assess reality since the last Mercury retro (November 2025). Mercury retrograde disrupts everything – communication, travel, thinking, planning, appointments, emails, postal mail, messages, writing, writers, deadlines, diagnosis, decisions, business plans, and all human interactions in general.

It’s best if no large decisions or purchases are made because after the retro two things can occur – something hidden during the retrograde comes to light and/or we change our mind about the purchase, realizing we no longer want it. Note, items bought in retrogrades are never used. If decisions and large purchases must occur, using a magnifying glass, read the small print three times three. Professors and teachers are reminded to review past materials with students and not to introduce new material for it’s not understood and promptly forgotten after the retrograde. Astrologers find Mercury retrograde times a useful and fascinating study. It’s like being on a magical mystery tour.

Aries	March 21 – April 19: Mercury retro in your chart is sitting in the midst of seven planets in Pisces. You may feel a bit as if you’re drowning perhaps in words. If feeling overwhelmed by hearing too much communication or too many words, consider taking Kali Phos, the Aries nerve nutrient and coping cell salt. It’s important now to review plans, hopes, dreams and wishes. Be aware of things unresolved and bring them to a resolution. Are there secrets, patterns and emotions appearing? Bless them. Thank them. Then rest.
Taurus	*April 20 – May 20:* A new reality unfolds in your daily life and daily work. You seek the people and groups your presence will have an effect upon. You will also assess the groups you already affiliate with. How do you serve them? How do they serve you? How can you do more and better? You can love more is the answer. It’s important to reconnect with old friends. The future is looking for you. It needs a teacher.
Gemini	*May 21 – June 20:* In the coming weeks you will reflect upon labor, your occupation, profession, employment, what you are called to do and what is yours to do. You will assess your educational level, read more books too. Money will be the focus, which is correct to ponder upon at this time. Something about communication and publishing, education, and bringing the Ancient Wisdom to humanity. A door to what is nowhere also closes.
Cancer	*June 21 – July 22:* Have daily intentions to focus more deeply upon clear communication because with so many memories appearing, thoughts could go astray and misunderstandings with others could occur. You know not to make important decisions and to pay attention to all negotiations. You also know not to gossip for then you display a flawed Mercury. You are God’s messenger even as you masquerade as Heyoka, the jester/trickster. Careful traveling. Or perhaps no travel is best.
Leo	*July 23 – August 22:* Unforeseen changes in plans can make for great frustration. Attempt to take these in stride and remember they will pass. All things previous to the retro will come to pass again, it may lead to fruition and hopefully all will be resolved. Decisions made prior to the retro will actually be implemented over time. This will be refreshing. Tend to finances during this retrograde, to taxes, debts and intimate bonds. The outcomes will be good.
Virgo	*August 23 – September 22:* Mercury retrograde is in Pisces, opposite your sign. Therefore it is affecting your partnerships and relationships. A searchlight is shining in that area of your life and also a wound seeking recovery. Neptune’s at home with Pisces, attempting to spiritualize and/or refine relationships. Some will dissolve. Then Vesta has your heart set on something or someone and then the Mercury retro appears again. Are you thinking of a past someone? They are too. Life is a circle, then a spiral.
Libra	September 23 – October 22: Your keen mind will review, reorganize and reflect upon what the world (and yours in particular) needs and how you can improve it. Notice you’re seeing through a different filter. Revelations may occur and lead to deep introspective thinking. It’s best to journal these experiences for communicating them could be difficult. More will be understood when Mercury is direct. For now, introspection and tending to health are your main tasks.
Scorpio	October 23 – November 21: The Pisces stellium (gathering of planets and signs in one area of life) is focusing itself on your creativity. As you tend to your home (or attempt to buy, rent or seek where home is) waves of creativity flow into and through you, and should you dedicate yourself to this, a certain wound may lessen and a new fire will burn within you, a Vesta fire like those in ancient temples. Something occurs concerning your base or foundation. It’s being transformed, as is your daily life. You are to become a designer of something, bringing beauty forth.
Sagittarius	*November 22 – December 21:* Careful communicating with those close to you, especially intimates, family and children. Neighbors, too, while doing walk-abouts. Due to the Mercury retrograde, notice any arguments, miscommunication and misunderstanding with no one understanding the meanings and intentions of everyday ideas and words. Because you understand the astrological predicament during Mercury retro, be the keen observer and the one who explains the astrology. You can do this. The Mysteries are another word for Scorpio.
Capricorn	December 22 – January 19: Thoughts, ideas, and people from the past show up in ways most unusual. Or perhaps you are asked to mediate in situations that are health oriented and difficult. Ideas, agreements, commitments, agendas and meetings could be delayed or cancelled. Make no extra plans or agendas. They could feel like a pressure to you and to everyone. And whatever is planned won’t work out anyway. Maintain humor. This will assist in any misunderstandings that might arise when idle chatter runs rampant. Gently shift any criticism to more loving points of view.
Aquarius	January 20 – February 18: While continuing to work toward the most perfect work situation, hold off any decisions concerning money and finances. Create and plan the use of resources around a monthly budget. At each month’s end review your money flow. All things can be adjusted but only when you know for what and how your money is being used. You will continue to seek different ways to bring in income. Rely on your true inner principles, your imagination and your sense of artistic leadership.
Pisces	February 19 – March 20: During the next several weeks you will be very introspective and this will provide insight into how you truly feel and what your values really are. Feeling more intelligent and original you’ll seek greater independence and freedom. After this retrograde, unusual ideas will emerge. Speak with others also interested in pursuing a new direction.
