Light in the Dark
Full Moon on Santa Lucia Day
Silence Surrounds Us
Daily Overview of the Week –
Thursday is Aries moon – touching in on Venus & Mercury. A good day to plan and assess resources for the upcoming holiday.
Friday is Sun/Jupiter. We may feel enthusiastic, joy, expanded with love and wisdom.
Saturday is Sun/Saturn. We pull back a bit, restructure our plans and agendas. Become practical again. Preparing for Tuesday’s full moon, Sagittarius solar festival – we stand in Confidence. It holds our mind steady with Right Thinking.
Sunday is our 3rd Sunday of Advent. We light the rose colored candle signifying joy, knowing what is to come. The new Light of the World. Taurus moon today. We find comfort in our rhythms and rituals. It’s an unusual late night for those who remain awake. We may not sleep well. We stand with Aspiration today, which holds our mind in Right Feeling as we prepare for Tuesday’s solar festival.
Monday is the day before the Full Moon, Sag solar festival, our emphasis on Sagittarius (and not on Gemini). We stand today in Dedication – which holds our minds steady in the Light of preparation. Gemini moon today has us tending to this & that, here & there. Many NGWSs will be having their full moon meditations. We join with them through intention and dedication. We recite the Great Invocation tonight & tomorrow.
Santa Lucia & Sagittarius Festival
Tuesday, December 13 (Winter Solstice, Julian calendar) is the Feast of Santa Lucia (Lucy). Lucia, from Latin “luc, lux”, means “light”, “lucid.” A Christian young woman during the times of Roman persecution, Lucia distributed her wealth to the poor and brought food to the Christians hiding in the catacombs. She wore candles on her head so her hands were free. Lucia consecrated her life to God and refused an arranged marriage leading to martyrdom.
Santa Lucia, patron saint of the blind and a symbol of light in the darkness, is celebrated in Scandinavian and Italian towns and here and there across America. Young girls wear halos of lights and evergreen (lingonberry) wreathes with seven candles (Advent wreath) are centerpieces on tables. Candles and shining flickering lights are everywhere for light is the central theme (giving hope and banishing the darkness).
Santa Lucia festivities include parades (serenading the dark, the land, the sky, the trees) of young women, a crown of candles on their heads (passing by and seen through a darkened window). Festivities begin before dawn. In some villages, entire towns celebrate with open houses, lights in windows, Mass, religion ceremonies, reading the Christmas story and lighting the Christmas tree (like the White House Christmas tree). Festival foods include mulled wine, cider, ginger cookies and Swedish Lussekatter (Saffron Raisin Buns).
Full Moon Festival
Sagittarius Festival at the time of the Full Moon
Tuesday, is also the Sagittarius solar festival and last full moon of 2016. We ponder upon the Sag keynote and the Soul’s directive, “I see the goal, I reach that goal, and then I see another.” We then list our goals. We are the rider on the white horse. Our eyes on the mountaintops of Capricorn. Initiation is ahead & silence surrounds us.
Two Notes: Preparing – Mercury retrogrades December 19th! And my daily FB posts (Daily Studies) are now on my website –www.nightlightnews.org/
