Saturn – Teacher, Guardian, Time-Keeper & Rule of Law
All the planets at one time or another turn retrograde (appearing to move backwards), creating an inward-focused time. At present, Mars, Uranus, Neptune Pluto and Chiron are retrograde. And soon (October 14) Mercury will also retrograde. During retrograde times we reflect upon the past, eliminate what is not useful, and hopefully bring forth closure. Then the planet turns direct again (moving forward).
Monday, after four and a half months of retrograde (since May 11th), Saturn, strict teacher, disciplinarian and time-keeper, turns direct (25 degrees Capricorn). During Saturn retrograde times we tend to what’s neglected and forgotten. Debts (karma) owed are remembered. Tests and challenges return, giving us time to learn lessons once again.
After Saturn turns direct, we are ready to assume more tasks and responsibilities, become more productive, achieve more, are on time, and apply practically what we have learned over the previous months. We recognize that strength, ambition, and a sense of perseverance have developed. We feel encouraged, have sounder judgment, and care for ourselves in more practical ways.
Saturn pushes us to have courage, moves us out of past habits, we carefully assume new rhythms. Saturn teaches us the importance of the Rule of Law as well as the Law of Acceptance, accepting that which comes to us. Saturn guards and guides us, teaches us to trust and assume responsibility. Saturn also offers us failures so we can learn fortitude and patience. Saturn adjusts our abilities by providing us challenges, struggles as well as times of solitude and aloneness. Saturn is strict but always very fair.
Saturn moves forward now to meet a very important date – that of Winter Solstice – joining Jupiter and entering Aquarius. After 500 years preparation, the new era, the Aquarian age, is said to really begin then.
